What a weekend..
I spent Friday night in astrological musings with an original sister circle friend while our littles played mermaids in the hot tub. Languishing in the water under a sky of stars talking past lives and destined meetings seemed ever so appropriate for celebrating the summer solstice.
I barely slept that night and was up at the crack of dawn on Saturday so I could make the hour drive to the Westide to set up my first vendor booth at the Cleveland Yoga Festival at Edgewater Park. The sun was out, I had a friend by my side, and the possibility of new sacred contracts felt like a good probability.
I loved meeting fellow unicorns, hearing their stories, seeing smiles when the oracle card they picked resonated, and getting some damn good dating advice too - are you a lesson or a blessin - haha!!!
By the end of the day, I was out of flyers and business cards. So here's the information for upcoming events in case anyone reading this is interested:
New Moon Series
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on June 3, July 2, and August 1
$30 a session
Join us as we celebrate the new moon and all the lessons she brings.
We can’t see the new moon in the sky as it rises and sets with the sun, and so we learn to wait. To sit in the darkness in faith that the moonlight will find us again.
Through a gentle yoga flow sequence, we will also be asked to practice our patience. To not rush from posture to posture, but instead to give ourselves time to slow down, settle in, and see what new sensations arise when we take the time to actually allow them to surface.
The night will also include a guided meditation with crystal bowls sound healing, and an experimental art project.
No previous art or yoga experience required.
Please pre-register so we are sure to have enough supplies on hand.
Down Dogs and Daydreams
9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14 Circle of Renewal Yoga Studio – Shore Cultural Center
$30 a session
What do you see for your future? Is it a specific place you want to visit (Bora, Bora please!), a goal you hope to accomplish (publish a piece of poetry), a general feeling you want to arrive at (I’ll take an order of contentment with a side of euphoria), all of the above? This workshop makes the abstract tangible by getting those places, people, ideas, and emotions committed to paper. As you will learn in the session, such recording actually makes you more likely to achieve whatever it is you set out to do.
After we spend some time getting centered on our mats, we will shift our energy to creating art that reflects our deepest dreams.
All supplies provided. Please pre-register. No previous yoga or art experience required.
Explore Your Story
2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16
$30 a session
Our identities are wrapped up in stories – the ones we tell, the ones we create, and the ones we rewrite and revise. There is a power in claiming, and sharing one’s story.
In this workshop, we explore how yoga and writing mirror one another, and the meaning-making that can result from the practice of both. Through a creative writing exercise, we will honor the past, revel in our current realities, and manifest the dreams we have for our futures. This will be accompanied by a yoga sequence that focuses on unlocking our creativity and overcoming mental blocks, a reflection on the process, and an opportunity to share.
Please pre-register. No previous yoga or writing experience required.
After spending all day in the sun, I drove the hour back home, showered, and then drove an hour back out to Ohio City to see the stunning Emily Jeffries (another sister) perform in Sarah Holmes Villaneuva's The Dream. I am not sure I could translate the story, and I don't have to. All I know is that it was moving, and beautiful, and it made me so envious of people with talents like hers.
Shit, I couldn't even manage to keep the romper I bought less than two hours ago at the yoga festival clean long enough to arrive at the performance not looking like a total slob (really hoping it is not permanently damaged due to my essential oil mishap) and I almost toppled a piece of art asking to use the restroom in the performance space in a vain attempt to save the romper (what a cool space the Hildebradnt Artist Colective is!) so I certainly couldn't move my body with the grace of those dancers, let alone do it while maneuvering big rods of metal sculpture around.
Em - I want to talk about the possibility of something like this being a future sister circle field trip! This art is too special not to share!
Today after a five mile run for my #streakingwiththecoolkidschallenge I hit the theater with my sister circle sister and biological sister for our monthly Broadway Series date.
And oh how I cried. Dear Evan Hansen had me sniffling, and sighing, and pretty much wiping a constant stream of tears from my face. I loved the set which was minimal and hardly changed throughout the whole production - it was a series of screens scrolling social media updates, texts, and call messages. The set didn't have to change as the storytelling and the music was more than enough to hold me captive. The story centers around a teen named Evan Hansen who per a recommendation from his therapist writes a letter to himself to help curb his anxiety. The letter falls into the 'wrong' hands (or maybe the right ones) and reminds all of us what it feels like to be on the outside "waving through a window" (title of one of the musical tracks from the show). The production tackles suicide, mental illness, fears of falling short, and feeling hopelessly alone. It also reminds us that we/"you will be found".
Have you ever felt like nobody was there? Have you ever felt forgotten in the middle of nowhere? Have you ever felt like you could disappear? Like you could fall, and no one would hear?
Well, let that lonely feeling wash away Maybe there's a reason to believe you'll be okay 'Cause when you don't feel strong enough to stand You can reach, reach out your hand
And oh, someone will coming running And I know, they'll take you home
Even when the dark comes crashing through When you need a friend to carry you And when you're broken on the ground You will be found
So let the sun come streaming in 'Cause you'll reach up and you'll rise again Lift your head and look around You will be found You will be found You will be found You will be found You will be found
....
